Oahu man cited twice in two weeks for lay net violations

THREE LAY NET VIOLATIONS IN THREE MONTHS. THE DEPARTMENT OF LAND AND NATURAL RESOURCES SAYS..IT'S ALL THANKS TO THE COMMUNITY. THE MOST RECENT HAPPENED THIS SUNDAY IN KANEOHE BAY. THE D-L-N-R SAYS…MICHAEL CANANILLA JUNIOR HAD SOME 12- HUNDRED FEET OF LAY NET..WHICH FOR THAT AREA IS 10 TIMES THE LEGAL LIMIT. THEY ALSO BELIEVE HE TOOK OUT-OF-SEASON AND UNDER-SIZED FISH..AND LIVE CORAL ROCKS. THEY ISSUED HIM 3 CITATIONS. AND TWICE BEFORE THAT…ANOTHER MAN IDENTIFIED AS BRYANT OKAWA WAS CITED FOR THE SAME OFFENSE. ROBERT FARRELL, DLNR: it's up to the courts to decide. this guy is a repeat offender so hopefully the fine this person has to pay.. and or jail time he has to serve.. will serve as a deterrent in the future. JOE: THE D-L-N-R ENCOURAGES PEOPLE TO DOWNLOAD ITS FREE TIP APP..WHICH ALLOWS YOU TO ANONYMOUSLY REPORT VIOLATIONS THAT YOU SEE.
